While it is a great feeling being done with Step 1, I really don’t know what’s worse, the months leading up to the exam, or the feeling of impending doom while waiting for the scores to be released. All I can do is try to enjoy my summer, and try my best not to think about it. I have always found that one of the best ways to get your mind off something that you have no control over is traveling. You don’t have to travel very far, maybe just to a different state to catch up with some family, or old friends you haven’t seen in a while. The change of scenery always makes me feel better about things.
After my exam I packed a duffle bag and headed to Brooklyn. I love that city, it’s not too far from my hometown, and there’s always something going on. I mainly went up for a good friend’s birthday (Happy Bday Helen!). We got a chance to visit the FAILE exhibit at the Brooklyn museum. If you’re in the area you should definitely check it out. Especially the Faile & Bast Deluxx Fluxx arcade. It’s this interactive installation filled with working pinball machines, arcade games, and foosball tables. It’s a guaranteed good time. We followed that up with some incredible soup dumplings in china town, which are insanely addictive. I’m lucky I don’t live in the city because I’d definitely weigh a million pounds right now. All of the food is too delicious.
After a few days in Brooklyn we headed up to Hartford for a while. It’s a great spot to relax, get in some good hiking, and enjoy nature. Perfect way to get your mind off things for a while. I know that soon I will have to get back to reality, but my only job right now is to stay positive, don’t look back, and plan for the road ahead.
