I am currently in the process of moving to another state to get ready for my third-year clinical rotations starting in September! This will be my first big move, so I have a lot of planning to do and things to buy. Buying furniture and household items can be incredibly expensive, which I was dreading because I am on a budget. Thanks to the internet, I have found several ways to find items for my future home without breaking the bank!
- Refurnish old furniture. I have been checking out my local thrift stores daily for furniture that is in need of some TLC. Refurnishing an old item is a great way to get what you want at a fraction of the cost. I have found a TV stand, coffee table, dresser, and kitchen table at thrift stores that I have completely redone and turned into something that looks brand new. The best part? I’ve basically spent pennies on something that I’m going to use every day, and I’m able to customize it myself. It’s amazing what a sander and a can of paint can do!
- Online marketplaces. I have been looking online for people who are selling various items. If you take the time and have the patience to look, there are a ton of people selling like-new items for very cheap, or even giving away for free. This is a great way to try new things that you wouldn’t normally buy brand new from the store or even to get something you’ve always wanted at a fraction of the cost.
