It has been one week since I started my intensive board review course for the USMLE Step 1 in Chicago, called Advanced Introduction to Clinical Medicine. I have such an amazing professor who truly wants us to succeed on Step 1. He went to medical school in England and is a recent graduate, practicing family medicine. We have been reviewing pharmacology this past week, which was a wake-up call for me because it’s one of my weak points. We are assigned sections to pre-read before classes, and then he does intensive drill sessions by quizzing us on the knowledge we read and making sure we understand it and can apply it.
I feel that I am going to accomplish so much this semester with the review course and within my own personal knowledge. I feel confident that I will be ready for the Step 1 in either October or November, with the guidance of my professor and my studying. Being back in the US has renewed my motivation and passion for medicine. The change of environment has been so refreshing. City life is a huge change from my life on the island, but definitely an amazing change! I am so excited to see what this summer has in store for me, and I am excited to become immersed in the review course to prepare me for Step 1.
