I’ve written several posts about how music is one of my passions and stress relievers. Over Christmas break, I acquired a record player. I have to say this has turned into another hobby for me. I’m literally obsessed with purchasing records of bands that I love. Strangely enough, I find going record shopping to be a nice way to take a break from medicine. Fortunately, since I live in Philadelphia, there are plenty of record stores around the city. When I’m feeling particularly frustrated or simply bored with what I’m doing, I’ll decide to go visit a record store I haven’t been to. I could literally spend hours just combing through the sections looking for albums I’m familiar with.
I’ve actually discovered that there are record stores who sell predominantly metal and punk records. I can’t even tell you how many hours I’ve blown away just going through these stores. As strange as it sounds, it’s actually super fun. Unfortunately, being the broke med student that I am, the limiting factor to this hobby is most definitely my income. Not to mention the fact that a lot of the bands I listen to press a limited number of vinyl and so they essentially become rare once they’re released; this means that they become pretty expensive over time.
I definitely recommend this hobby to anyone that’s into music. I love the artwork and the time a lot of bands put into making the records. It definitely provides a much needed escape from time to time!
