Scholarship Season is upon us!!! I have identified over 50 scholarships that I will be vying for and with such little time the timing of these applications has to be perfectly orchestrated to so I don’t forget anything. I make a scholarship calendar and work off of it. If I am even remotely eligible I apply. What’s the worst that they can say, no? Exactly! When I was trying to figure out how to pay for college, I applied for 78 scholarships and ended up with 7 of them paying for my entire undergraduate education. One of my scholarships, the Gates Millennium Scholarship, is also paying for my MPH and PHD in Public Health. Being given these opportunities, find it only fitting that I give back to the community and to others though assistance in college planning, mentorship, and through service on national boards that help the community. To whom much is given much is required, right!?! The biggest struggle is budgeting it all… 12 months on the medical school budget is a balancing act!
With class starting so soon I’m finding myself in a predicament. I’m out of highlighters! It sounds crazy but I only use non-yellow highlighters. They make it really hard to read what I have highlighted. Highlighters and other supplies are ridiculously expensive then on top of that, its almost impossible to find highlighters without the yellow ones in the pack. One of my friends in particular loves the yellow ones so she always gets gifts from me when I run out. Either way as I complain about highlighters, the underlying complaint lies with the fact that I’m not ready to go back to school. To taste freedom was wonderful… back to the grind!
