Medical school is all about balance so we have been told numerous times throughout this journey. But in reality it is harder than it seems as the years go by. There are so many sacrifices that are made both in my professional life and personal life. Now that I am on rotations, not all weekends are free weekends which means that I have to plan accordingly to make sure that I am able to set time aside for school, my family, and myself.
Of course guilt takes over when I miss an important event with friends or family. The feeling of failure lingers when I do not succeed to my full potential during my rotations. And to be quite honest, most of time I feel like I am barely keeping up. I share these experiences with you because on the outside (social media, passing in the halls, or just a conversation) might make this journey seem less difficult than it really is. So if you are in the same position, know that you are not alone. Know that your friends and family support your hustle. Know that this is only temporary.
It is difficult, I know, trust me I get it; but believe that it is all worth it.
