So I just found out that I’ll be beginning my clinical years in Morristown, NJ. I’m really happy with this placement, as this is both a great location and hospital. I’m really excited to move to a new area, meet new people, and begin this new chapter of my life.
While I look forward to the move, I never look forward to apartment hunting. It’s especially bad when you don’t live in the area you’re searching for apartments in. The only resource at my disposal is “the list” online which only takes you so far. I think I may resort to finding a temporary location in the meantime, so I can visit the area and perform a more thorough search. Also, it’s almost time for another trip to that Swedish furniture store everyone knows and loves. What an incredible place to find stylish furniture at a reasonable price. What I dread about it are the hours spent afterwards putting together endless quantities of ridiculously sized wooden planks using a tiny hex key. When you think you’re almost done, you realize you’ve done it all wrong, and you get to take it apart and do it all again. Can’t wait. But seriously, there’s something so satisfying about the finished product when you’ve put the furniture together yourself. I really don’t know why, but it’s always nice to start a move off this way.
The hardest part of moving for me is once again saying goodbye to all of my friends and family back home. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve had to do this over the years, and you would think it would have gotten a lot easier, but it really hasn’t. It’s nice to know that there are people out there that completely understand the difficulties of this field and support the decisions I’ve made along the way. I could not have gotten this far without them.
Time to start packing and begin thinking about how to tackle step 2. Good luck to all those students studying for Step 1. Just be determined, and you’ll do great.
