People are always so surprised to know that my mom has 5 kids, with the oldest (me) being in medical school. She looks so young for her age. Her secret? A great skincare routine. From a young age, she always taught me the importance of wearing sunscreen, washing my face daily, and using products with little/no chemicals.
Our skin goes through a lot on a day-to-day basis battling the elements. It’s so important to protect our skin from excess sun, wind, etc. because long-term exposure can do damage. Wearing sunscreen even when you’re not at the beach is essential for protection against skin cancer and other long-term issues. My mom always starts out her day with a moisturizer and foundation that have SPF included. I read a statistic one time that said 1 in 5 Americans will develop a form of skin cancer at some point in their lives.
Another important part of her routine is washing her face with an unscented bar of soap, and moisturizing twice a day. Our skin is filled with little pores that absorb chemicals from the products that we put on it, so choosing items that have little/no chemicals is beneficial in the long run. I am all for natural products and taking the time to research the ingredients in things that I am putting on/into my body.
Skincare routines can be time-consuming, but it’s a very important part of our overall health. Our skin is the largest organ of our bodies, so why not prioritize its health! What are some of your skincare routine tricks and hacks?
