The big question on every four-year med student’s mind is when to take this final dreaded USMLE exam. I was contemplating taking it before residency begins, but that would require intensive studying immediately. I am not ready to dedicate that amount of time, after medical school ends, to this exam. I want to take some time to fully enjoy life for a bit, so I decided the best time to sit for it would be late fall of residency. Preferably after a vacation week, or during some elective time. I just hope my intern year schedule allows for this plan. Don’t get me wrong, I am going to begin studying immediately, but just not as intensively as I would the month before the actual exam. Also, after speaking to my peers, I feel like this is the most common time to take this exam. I know it will be tough to get back into to study mode, but I think I’m up for the challenge.
