I recently started a board review course 2 weeks ago, and I can already tell it is going to be a very busy semester! I have class Monday through Sunday, 7 days a week, with diagnostic subject exams every other week. The amount of information we have covered in just a few weeks is astounding. I have really great professors who are passionate about educating us in a fun and interactive way. 4 hours of class time flies by because I am learning so much and it’s being presented in an interesting and applicable way. I have my first exam this week on physiology, to see how I did with covering and retaining the material that we have covered so far. I can’t believe we covered a whole subject in just a couple of weeks!
Time management has been a little difficult for me because I am honestly overwhelmed at how fast the information is coming to me. I spoke with my dad who took the same course several years ago while he was studying for Step 1. He advised to take lots of notes during the lecture, review the topics covered after the lecture, and then use the online questions/videos to go back to the material covered the next day. He stressed the importance of repetition and understanding the topics. I also have tried reading ahead before class on what’s going to be presented that day, and that is helping a lot as well. Hopefully, within the next few weeks, I will get a solid schedule and routine down!
