I’ve been studying for Step 2 CS and CK! What really struck me was how I just really want to get this over with. Back when I was studying for Step 1, at times I remember wishing that I had more time to study. I feel the complete opposite about Step 2. At this point, I’ve just gotten used to taking exams. 3rd year was all about working, studying, and taking shelves. Rinse and repeat. A decent amount of my medical education has been taking assessments and I really view these upcoming exams as just another hurdle I need to get across.
It’s interesting, I feel less nervous about these exams. Don’t get me wrong, I’m dreading taking a 9-hour exam, and I am nervous to a certain degree, but I just think I’ve accepted that I will get through this. Since Step 2 focuses more on management, I feel that I have a certain basal level of knowledge for this because all of 3rd year was spent learning management. However, there is definitely knowledge that stays in the clinic because it doesn’t apply to exams. I guess that is the most frustrating thing about it. Often, when you’re on the floor, you’re told to order certain tests, or instead of ordering one test, you order a whole slew of them. This is in stark contrast to Step 2 questions where they want the next best step but in reality, you’re probably just going to order them all!
Like I said, can’t wait for this to be over. See you guys on the other side!
