Break has begun. It is time to rest and relax. My family is now in Minnesota, so I will be having a white Christmas. I also must prepare for the storm. The storm of studying that awaits before the USMLE Step 1 Exam. My extracurriculars are going to start to dwindle. I must hand over the leadership positions to next year’s class. My hobbies will begin to take a back seat to what is more important, determining the rest of my life. Of course, there is more that goes into applying to residency than just your USMLE Step 1 score, but I believe scaring myself into believing the test is extremely important will be the catalyst to my focus.
My studying, when I return from break, will consist of the current block UCLA is teaching to us (Psychiatry) and a different organ system a week. Questions will be done every night to test my knowledge and see where I need improvement. Next block will be a challenge, with studying for my final exam, step and other activities. We are taking a ski trip to Mammoth as a class, planned by myself and the other second year social chair. I will also be traveling to Carmel, CA for a research conference and back to San Diego for a race. This coming block will take a good amount of perseverance. I am under the impression that psychiatry is not the most demanding block, so hopefully I will experience some leeway on that front.
This blog will be a good outlet to vent my frustrations and speak my triumphs. My goals are to continue to bring you new, exciting, and honest blog posts. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
