I was reading through some of my esteemed colleagues’ blogs, to see what was happening at other schools. And I was very impressed by Ashleigh’s study schedule, and her blog about balancing studying for the NBME and for classes.
It’s something very pertinent to our lives up here in New Hampshire. On one hand, our professors tell us that studying for our class material is the same as studying for Step 1. On the other hand, it’s been more than a year since I’ve even studied Biochemistry, which is on Step 1, so that also deserves some of my time in studying.
What do you all do?
Currently, I alternate days studying for coursework and for studying. Every other day, I’ll do 40 practice questions, and then review the content for what I didn’t understand. For example, yesterday, I reviewed topics on familial hypercholesteremia, atrial septal defect, and homocysteinuria. Additionally, I’ll do flashcards in my spare time (during lunch, while unwinding for the day). The following day, I focus specifically on what course content, so I don’t fall too far behind.
