I still love internal medicine and even though I’m on my second placement I’m still finding that I’m enjoying when I’m learning and I’m enjoying every day of what I’m doing. I’m now on pulmonary! I think this is really helping me to cement the difference ways that we go about treating pulmonary function disorders. For example, when we review a patient’s shortness of breath, the differential changes based on the amount of activity that changes their ability to breathe.
I really enjoy the outpatient clinic portion of this specific assignment but I’m finding that I also really enjoy variety which is something that I wasn’t as sure that I’d love. They say that it’s better to be a master at one trade than a jack of many but for me, I’m finding that being a jack of all trades suits my personality. I have no problem referring patients to the Masters of their specific condition but in all honesty I like to see it all. During this, I keep finding myself also missing kids. I never thought that they meant that much to me, but at this point I feel like they can add a certain joy to one’s day. I guess family medicine is still definitely in the cards I don’t see myself becoming a specialist at all but we’ll see if this changes as the year continues.
