Amanda graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2018 and blogged for Merck Manuals during her fourth year of medical school. She is currently a general surgery resident in the metro Detroit area. She looks forward to the next five years of training and hopes to specialize further. After moving to the US from Canada in high school, Jessica soon fell in love with medicine, particularly osteopathic medicine, and decided to pursue it as a career. Her interest in surgery began with her love for anatomy and was further solidified during her third-year surgery clerkship when she discovered the OR is something she could not live without.
6 ArticlesMike was born and raised on the Upper West Side of NYC. He was drawn to the arts at a young age and has been creating art ever since he was able to hold a crayon. Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age nine, Mike quickly became interested in the medical world; however, he decided to pursue his artistic passions while in undergrad at Skidmore College. It wasn't until his final year at Skidmore that he developed the academic confidence to give medicine a chance. Natter went onto complete a post-bac pre-med program at Columbia University and subsequently graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 2017. While in medical school, he utilized his art to help him master complex medical concepts and navigate the emotional journey of learning the craft of doctoring. Mike is currently an internal medicine resident at a New York hospital and plans to do a fellowship in endocrinology. Before starting medical school, she had the opportunity to travel extensively and also lived in 7 different countries. She is fluent in 5 languages and uses those skills to do small jobs like translations or teaching private English classes, to help support herself through school. She has a passion for humanitarian and relief aid, which has led her to work as a medical volunteer 3 times in Chad (Central Africa) and once at a refugee camp in Oinofyta, Greece.
