April 21st, 2017 marked the day I officially finished my basic sciences portion of medical school. It doesn’t feel real to me –being completely done with two years of medical school already. It feels like just yesterday I was arriving on the island, completely overwhelmed and nervous for what was to come. Now, my island house is all packed up in three suitcases. I’m ready to get on a flight tomorrow morning with my boyfriend, two dogs, and one kitten. As ready as I am to get back to familiarity in the states, I am definitely going to miss my time on the island. Not only did I learn a lot from my classes, but I learned a lot about myself during these last two years. I’m definitely going to miss my simple way of “island living.”
I am excited to start the second portion of medical school in Chicago. My school offers a review semester called Advanced Introduction to Clinical Medicine, which covers everything we learned in basic sciences and prepares us for the USMLE Step 1. I have decided that, if all goes well this summer, I’d like to take the Step 1 sometime between October-December 2017. I can’t wait to see what Chicago has in store for me. I’m sure these next two years of school are going to go by even quicker!
