If there’s one thing I really enjoy, it’s a really great thought-provoking, inspiring quote. I enjoy reading quotes very much, and it got me thinking. I turn to quotes, phrases, and readings to help me reflect and also think about my present situations. Medical school is tough, and I wanted to share some words of wisdom and some positive, thought-provoking messages as you reflect and grow.
My new favorite quote of all time—one that I seem to be sharing and referring to in my writing, discussions, etc—is by Abraham Lincoln who once said, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.”
I mean, can it get more profound? As I rise in leadership and learn more throughout this process while obtaining my MHA, I refer to this quote often. It keeps me grounded and helps me remain true to myself.
This leads me to the next quote. Will Smith said, “Don’t chase people. Be you, do your own thing and work hard. The right people who belong in your life will come to you and stay.”
Again, I appreciate this reminder of remaining true to yourself. You’ll notice a common theme. I just think it’s important to remember that point as you grow through your journey in medicine.
Lastly, I pulled this one from an Instagram account I follow and genuinely enjoy the daily reminders. “When no one can see, feel & understand your vision the way you do it is your time to rise. It is your time to get yourself together and believe like you never did before. Delays, detours & struggles are nothing but tests to test your courage & will power. Dreams manifested in physical world are not nearly as important as eternal lessons we learn on a spiritual level while we are building and making dreams come true.” – @mindsetofgreatness
I hope providing some food for thought is helpful to you. Just remember the following: be true to yourself, be you, & believe in yourself! Medical school is tough, but it’s rewarding and worth it!
