This is SO hard to do. SO hard. Especially if you are on an intense rotation with long hours and you are on your feet all day. The good thing is that you are probably burning a lot of calories running around the hospital and using your brain. But two weeks into the rotation go by and you realized you haven’t actually been to the gym or been outside to exercise in two weeks.
After almost a year of doing this, I think I have found ways to motivate myself to workout after a day at the hospital. First of all, I tell myself all day that I am GOING to workout. I also will drink a cup of coffee in the afternoon and have a snack. My biggest problem with not working out after work is how hungry I am. Sometimes I will even eat a small snack right when I get off.
Next, I will either bring my workout clothes in my car with me or I will force myself to change right when I get home. If I sit on the couch for a ‘second’ first…it’s all downhill from there.
I also plan on rewarding myself with wine at the end of the night. Sometimes I will tell myself that I can’t have a glass to study with unless I work out.
Last, sometimes I will watch videos to study while I am on the treadmill or elliptical. When I do this I tell myself that I am getting some studying done at the gym so I can stop studying half an hour earlier that night.
Just a few little things that get me to actually get myself to the gym during third-year!
