It can be hard to keep a consistent routine in medical school while the rest of the world is going about with their lives and milestones. It’s hard to have to say no to family and friends, events and vacations. Sometimes it feels like a never-ending journey, and it makes you feel bad having to turn down invites and activities because you need to adhere to a schedule. Staying motivated and inspired to keep at your routine can be difficult, but here’s how I do it.
Having friends who are in the same boat as you, in regards to studying, are great to have around. You can still hang out, but study together, and set time apart to study and focus on schoolwork while still having company in the process. Being surrounded by like-minded people that are doing the same things as you really helps to keep your motivation high. Planning big events and activities every once in a while to have something to look forward to is also another way to get through those long study days. Knowing I have a vacation or fun activity planned encourages me to keep at my studying and helps me stay focused on what needs to get done. Taking lots of mental breaks during my long study sessions also helps me to stay inspired and motivated. Even going for a little walk between study sessions helps to clear my mind and helps me focus when I get back into the routine after a break. How are some ways you stay inspired?
