Greetings from Kansas City, Missouri! This is the first time I’ve ever been in the Midwest and I’m excited to be attending the AAFP National Conference (American Academy of Family Physicians) for the first time as well! I’m looking forward to getting away from Richmond, VA for a bit and being able to explore a whole new city, even if it is for only a few days. Although the conference is the main priority, I’m going to be on the hunt for some tasty Kansas City barbeque!
With the conference, I can’t wait to meet other people who are just as passionate about family medicine as I am! There are tons of presentations and workshops on career planning and hot topics in family medicine. There is also a leadership forum with sessions to learn more about how the AAFP works on a national level, complete with student caucuses and resolution writing. Most of all, there is a huge expo hall with vendors and residency programs, so I get a chance to talk to residents and program directors at the places in which I’m interested. It might get a little overwhelming, but I hope to make the most of this opportunity!
