I’ve been doing a lot of research regarding skin care and watching informational videos from board certified dermatologists so I thought this would be a great time to share the top 3 staples in my skin care routine. Keep in mind, this is just basic information and what works for me. If you really want customized skin care that’s best for you, I recommend going to a dermatologist. But here are some things to consider adding to your skin care routine.
1 – Cleanser. Make sure you use the right cleanser for you. I have very sensitive skin, and I also have combination/oily skin, so I want to make sure I’m using something that will clean my skin without over drying it because that will only make it oilier. If you can, stack beneficial ingredients that are done well—whether it be in a moisturizer or cleanser. For example, my cleanser is a foaming formula which is perfect for normal to oily skin and contains ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid which are important for skin barrier health.
2 – Sunscreen. You’re probably not surprised, but this is such a key staple. Based on the research I have done, you need at least SPF 30 to be effective to protect against UVA and UVB rays. Talk to your dermatologist about the right type of sunscreen for you whether it be chemical or mineral. Sunscreen helps to prevent sun damage which may have more serious consequences such as skin cancer.
3 – Moisturizer + Serum. Keep it simple, and keep it fragrance free so it’s less irritating on the skin. I tend to use moisturizers or serums that contain key ingredients that I know my skin could use such as ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid to maintain my skin barrier. Your dermatologist can help you narrow down the right product for you.
