I always love hearing about conferences, especially if they pertain to my current interests as a medical student. In this post, I want to talk about which conferences to attend, what to do when you are there, and how to get to the conference on a budget.
Choosing which conference you want to go do is purely dependent on your interests and goals. For example, if you are passionate about Internal Medicine you can find conferences that are put on by institutions and organizations pertaining to topics in the field of Internal Medicine. A simple search online or just an email to your medical school coordinator can help you come up with a list!
Going to conferences can seem overwhelming given that most have a huge list of events and activities. What I usually like to do is find the medical student events and a couple of other events to attend. The conferences usually have a website or forum where physicians and other students who have attended previously talk about which events can be useful depending on your interests.
Once you have found a conference especially one that is a flight or two away can be intimidating given that most of us are living on our medical student loans. But not to worry! Most medical schools have scholarships or grants that are able to cover most or all of your costs. Conferences usually have stipends or grants that students can apply for as well. I also like to utilize my credit card that gives out points for dollars spent and usually catch a free flight depending on how many points I have!
Hopefully, this guide was helpful to plan your next conference trip. Comment down below with your favorite conference or tips you have about attending them!
