I am currently in my very last systems course of medical school. I cannot believe all that I have learned and how quickly these two years went by! Very soon I will be out in the hospital on clerkships and learning in a hands-on environment.
Thinking back to all of the systems we had, I definitely have a favorite…or three. I loved neurology, cardiology, and the reproductive course. I honestly did not expect to love repro so much, but it was definitely one of my favorites…so much so that I am actually considering ob/gyn. Keeping that in mind, I am definitely going to go into every rotation with an open mind and really try to find which specialty I fit into. Right now, I am strongly leaning towards emergency medicine. There are a lot of different reasons why I love it, but I can’t wait to experience the other specialties as well!
Neurology was our very first system. It was definitely hard because it was the first time I actually had to study pathology, pharmacology, and physiology pertaining to one system, but I loved it. I found the physiology so interesting.
Cardiology was also so interesting. My favorite part was figuring out how the pathology happened based on what the normal physiology should be. This is how every system is, but for some reason, all of the physics behind the heart really got to me.
I can’t wait to see how all of these systems tie together in the hospital setting!
