I thought this would be really fun to expand on the Never Have I Ever game especially by year of training. Gather your fellow M3/M4 med student colleagues and put your 10 fingers in the air! As you go through the list, lower one finger for each item that applies to you. Last one with the most fingers in the air wins! I’ll let y’all decide the reward!
- Said while making a call to another hospital/clinic for access to medical records, “Hello, I’m Doctor…”
- Failed an intubation.
- Called a patient by a pet name. Does calling a patient sunshine count?
- Been mistaken for housekeeping.
- Accidentally stepped in a puddle of some type of bodily secretions.
- Been asked by the patient to be seen by a “real doctor.”
- Been mistaken for another healthcare profession—nurse, pharmacist, etc.
- Dated a resident while I was a medical student.
- Had a dream I overslept and woke up in a panic just to find it’s 3 AM, and I’m fine—I’ll be there for pre-rounds. But in the case of surgery, I should be out of the house by now.
- Been jealous of my friends who don’t have to go to school and train as long as I do.
- Cried after delivering some difficult news to a patient.
- Cried after discharging a patient I got attached to (maybe it’s just me).
- Snapped on someone I love because I’m just so tired.
- Overslept for rounds.
- Taken on the role of a detective because I had to figure out social work/case management info before I let the patient out of the hospital.
- Felt like a boss because my resident complimented me that day.
- Hid in the back of the team for rounds so I could avoid being asked a question.
- Skipped a meal because I was too tired or too busy and forgot.
- Counted down the hours until call was over.
- Debated over who will get the first admission.
I’ll share that never have I ever stepped in a puddle of bodily secretions (yet) or dated a resident, but I may or may not be guilty of everything else on the list. I hope you enjoyed this game!
