As we get towards the second half of the year, I thought I would take this time to discuss the best way to schedule your fourth year since some of my third-year colleagues have asked for advice regarding this topic. One of the most important pieces of scheduling your fourth year is knowing how to manipulate your schedule around residency interviews. Residency interviews are generally around October to January depending on the number of programs people apply to. The majority of these are in November and December so make sure you have vacation time or rotations with flexibility will save tons of stress! Speaking of stress, if you have the ability you should also try and save some of your vacation time for the end of the year so that you can have some travel time before residency starts. Remember you will have generally 4-8 weeks from medical school graduation to residency, so use them wisely. I hope that these tips help you during your planning process for your fourth year!
