We’ve all had our days of wanting to just quit. Whether it’s an unruly patient treating you like a slave, or a preceptor drilling you question after question. You are not alone if you feel like you just can’t bare one more day of going to work or school. Things add up, stressors build, and you may start to feel like whatever you are doing is just not worth it anymore. But don’t give up! Here are some tips for preventing burnout, whether in the workplace or in school.
First, take a break. I know it sounds easier said than done, but this is so important for both your physical and mental health. Even if it is just 15 minutes out of your day, find something that you love that calms you down and takes your mind off of work/school. Go for a walk, pick up a hobby, work on your side hustle, play with your pet or child. The options are endless and you can make the most out of it by completely blocking out your stressors and focus on something that makes you relaxed and rejuvenates you. Another great option would be meditation!
Another way to prevent burnout is to plan your day or even your week! Having a schedule and sticking to it alleviates so much potential stress or uncertainty that you may face in your week. Yes it may take a few minutes each day to plan everything out, but it will save you time in the long run.
A last option is to ask for help. Try to build a relationship with your staff and coworkers. They can be your best resource for staying on top of your work. You’ll also work together more efficiently and they will be more willing to help you when you’re in a crunch. Another great resource is your family and friends! They want to see you succeed, so if you need help or someone to talk to, know who you can go to talk to if you need to vent or get advice.
