I wanted to use this post for some fun light-hearted favorite items that I like to use during residency not only for my own personal well-being but also as essential items that help me during my long days.
- On-Call Bag: I might have mentioned this little bag before but I wanted to go into detail regarding the contents inside. I always carry a small bag with extra pair of socks (OBGYN life means fluids that often find themselves on your shoes and socks), a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, sanitary pads, and lotion. I carry it in my work bag every day regardless of if I am staying overnight or not and let me tell you that it has come in handy more than just a few times. I highly encourage you to make one (target trip anyone?) and customize it to your needs. You never know when you will need it next!
- Fresh nail polish. Depending on your specialty and what rotation you are on, painting your nails might not be an option. But I find myself stalking up on my favorite colors so that when do have the opportunity I can paint my nails. Not only is it therapeutic for me to light a candle and paint my nails but I also love looking at my creation every day!
- My Peloton bike! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it so much. With my crazy schedule and my obsession with meeting my goals as an athlete, I decided to invest in a bike to help me get some major sweat sessions in as much as I am able. There are many different companies and different options out there, so if you are in a place where you can purchase one, I highly encourage it. Also, don’t forget to inquire about a healthcare professional discount!
- Candles have also become a necessity in my home. I light different ones pending on my mood and take a moment to just enjoy the cozy environment. Little things go a long way.
I can go on and on about my favorite items but I am curious to know what are the guilty pleasures that contribute to your wellness and get you through a tough day/week/month?
