It’s hard to stick to your normal routine when you’re traveling. It’s easy to get dehydrated, eat poorly, and have irregular body functions while traveling.
While I was spending a month abroad in the country of Colombia, I made sure to consume fruits and vegetables high in fiber, whether I liked them or not. I also made sure to drink plenty of water, which was easier for me because I always made sure to carry a water bottle around which subconsciously had me sipping on water/refilling my bottles throughout the day. You can also add fresh fruit to the water to add flavor and vitamins/minerals. One fruit that I am not fond of is papaya, but it has tremendous health benefits, especially while traveling. I made sure to eat some with breakfast every morning to ensure that I consumed enough fiber in my diet while abroad.
It’s easy to want to let go and eat poorly while on vacation, and it’s still okay to do so. Just be sure to include fibrous fruits and vegetables every so often, as well as a few healthy meals throughout your trip to stay healthy and hydrated. Another way to consume the nutrients you need while abroad is to take a multivitamin. This was recommended to me to give me a boost of nutrients to help me stay healthy while traveling. I always like to eat meals that are customary to the country that I am visiting, so I try to choose the healthier options every once in a while.
