My summer break is just about half way give or take and I just wanted to use this post to reminisce on what I have done. I feel like that’s probably one of my most common questions I have been getting regarding my break.
Clinical work: I was fortunate enough to get a position at one of the local clinics in my city as a student doctor intern prior to finishing my first year. I go there once a week and see my own patients then discuss with a preceptor and get started on the note. It’s such a rewarding opportunity because we get to help the uninsured get the care they deserve!
Research: 2-3 times a week I spend time in the lab with a clinical research group that’s testing a new probiotic for women hoping to reduce the re-occurrence of bacterial vaginosis. My job is to screen possible participants and follow up with them during the trial. So far I’ve been able to utilize much of my microbiology, pharmacology, and clinical knowledge!
Studying: After giving my brain a well-deserved break I decided to lightly browse through my books. I wouldn’t say I am studying as if I’ll be taking boards next week but enough to retain what I have learned last year. I’ve been trying different resources and study methods so that when board studying does go into full effect, I know exactly how to tackle it.
Fun times: In between clinic and research there isn’t much room for fun…or you’d think…I’ve made plenty of time to enjoy with friends and family. Although I haven’t done a big trip I have gone on small mini vacations which have been just as refreshing.
What have you been up to during the summer!?!
