Going to med school in this day and age has honestly made med school so much easier. It is not easy by any means…but I seriously do not know how doctors did it even 10, 20 or 30 years ago. We have textbooks online and can use the ‘search’ function to find something immediately. We have the internet where we can look things up even faster. And at our fingertips at the bedside. We have all of these resources to help us memorize things faster (like microbiology and pharmacology).
Is this helping us learn things easier so we can retain more? Or is this just creating a generation of doctors that rely on technology? Maybe a little bit of both. And one could definitely argue that there is nothing wrong with relying on technology because that is the world we live in and that is the future. To a certain extent, this is definitely the case. But what about in the developing world? What if our technology starts to fail us?
Just some thoughts.
