A lot of students wonder what to do with their summer before med school starts. If you’re like me at all, you’re probably thinking maybe I should buy a book and start studying so I don’t seem behind when the day of reckoning comes. Big Mistake! Do not try to study for med school before the first day.
Take this summer to relax, hangout with friends and family, sleep, and have fun. The next four years of your life will be filled with enough studying for a lifetime, so enjoy the summer. Instead of sticking my head in a book all summer, I tossed it aside, and decided to get some traveling in. Find a friend who is as adventurous as you are and go explore Europe or Asia. Have stuff to talk about with your new med school friends when you get back. Another great idea is traveling around the U.S. If you’re on a coastal state, travel to the opposite coast and explore. I’m sure there’s someone you can think of in NY, Seattle, Cali, or DC that would love to have you over for a few days.
Moral of this story…Have fun, relax, and get your head ready for the journey ahead.
